Buy Sulfur, Silicon, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sorbitol, Saltpeter, Shellac, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Nitrate, Stearic Acid
Unless otherwise noted, all chemicals come packed in a twist-tied plastic bag in a sealed, reusable plastic tub. Some, very light-weight, high-volume chemicals (like air float charcoal, lampblack, and Cab-O-Sil) are packed in boxes instead of tubs. Each container is labeled and contains a material safety data sheet (MSDS) for that chemical. The chemicals we supply are generally technical grade, sometimes better. Technical grade is generally defined as "chemicals of reasonable purity".

Sodium Bicarbonate
(Sodium hydrogen carbonate, baking soda) [NaHCO3] White powder
Commonly known as Baking Soda, Sodium Bicarbonate is used as an antacid to treat acid indigestion and heartburn. A paste from baking soda can be very effective when used in cleaning and scrubbing. It’s used in toothpaste to gently remove stains, whiten teeth, and freshen breath. Applied to the skin it helps remove body odors as it absorbs chemicals. It is used in combination with acidic compounds as a leavening agent in baking. Formerly, it was used as a source of carbon dioxide for soda water. Sodium bicarbonate is used as a fire-suppression agent in some dry powder fire extinguishers. Other applications include air pollution control, abrasive blasting for removal of surface coatings, chemical manufacturing, leather tanning, oil well drilling fluids, rubber and plastic manufacturing, paper manufacturing, textile processing, and water treatment.

Sodium Silicate
(Waterglass) [Na2O•2SiO2] Clear 40% solution
2-Quart plastic jug cuts your cost in half.
40% concentration (+3.0 weight ratio) to destroy "Cash for Clunkers" engines.
The most economical package for disabling Cash for Clunkers engines. Narrow neck drains itself into crankcase.
Sodium silicate is SLOWER THAN MOLASSES! Literally.
It takes forever to drain out of any container. This container has the exact amount required by the government to disable one engine. Just remove the top, drop the jug into the crankcase oil hole, and walk away.
BULK SODIUM SILICATE ACTUALLY COSTS YOU TWICE AS MUCH!
Sure, bulk is cheaper quart or gallon. But BULK SODIUM SILICATE WILL EAT YOU ALIVE IN LABOR COSTS AND WASTE.
It’s all about your time and labor to get the stuff into the engine.
That’s because you have to get bulk sodium silicate out of drum, pail, or bucket before you can dump it in the engine. In fact, it takes you more time to get it out of the bulk container than it does to empty our 2-quart container into the engine.
And if the person doing the work is worth $30 - $50 an hour in billable time, you just blew any savings you got buying your sodium silicate in bulk.
Here’s what happens.
Assuming you have your 5 gallon can or 55 gallon drum ready to pour. And that it is warm enough for the stuff to actually flow (forget it, if it’s 40 degrees F or less).
1. Fill a 2 quart container from the drum. Repeat as necessary. 3-5 minutes each.
2. Clean up spills and drips. They don’t call it “waterglass” for nothing! It hardens very quickly. 5-10 minutes.
3. With no pour spout, insert a funnel, hold the container over the crankcase until it’s empty. 5-7 minutes.
4. Wash reusable container, funnel, and spouts out thoroughly. 5 minutes
Total time: 20-27 minutes per engine per person. At $0.75 billable time per minute, that’s at least $15 in labor per engine just to fill it with sodium silicate. Add the cost of the sodium silicate, your total is $25-$35 per engine.
Not counting waste: Spillage and sodium silicate sticking to the inside or containers, funnels, spouts, etc. will easily waste 15-20% of the liquid you bought.
Or use our 2-quart container:
1. Take cap off, insert neck of jug into crankcase, and let drain. 30 seconds.
2. Remove jug 10 minutes later and throw away. 10 seconds.
Elapsed time, 40 seconds, or about 50 cents in labor plus cost of material, about $13.50 per engine.
There’s no waste, no cleanup. In fact, one operator can fill 40-50 the engines with 2-quart jugs of sodium silicate in the time it takes to fill one engine using bulk-packed sodium silicate!
2 Quart Jugs of Sodium Silicate. 6-pak $77.77
